Why us

We run every layer, from hardware to AI workflows.

Your data and compute run on hardware we operate ourselves, maintained by the same team that builds AI workflows and does research in AI and bioinformatics.

  1. You, side by side with clinicians, researchers and us

You decide what runs, where it runs and who can see it. Clinicians, researchers and our own AI and bioinformatics experts work on the same platform, right next to you, not behind a ticket queue. And beyond infrastructure, we welcome scientific collaboration.

  2. AI workflows, built by us

We develop the pipelines and AI services that connect the layers below, designed for clinical research from the start.

  3. LLM APIs on CCI and de.NBI

Dedicated, OpenAI‑compatible LLM APIs, one inside each cloud, so prompts stay in the environment their data comes from.

  4. OpenStack, Kubernetes and Slurm

Self‑managed VMs, container clusters and batch scheduling: the platforms that carry your workloads, operated by us.

  5. Compute on our own hardware

CPU, storage, networking and GPUs from V100 to H200, on machines we operate ourselves in the CBF data center.

Environments

Three environments for different kinds of data.

CCI is our main, recommended infrastructure for most projects. Alongside it we run de.NBI Cloud Berlin and the Eils HPC cluster. All three are free to use.

Clinical Cloud Infrastructure

An on‑premises, clinically interoperable cloud in the CBF data center for sensitive and patient data. Every project gets its own VPN group: only members with a Charité AD account, a GB‑IT‑managed device and board‑approved VPN permission can reach its VMs. The VMs can still reach the internet through a proxy.

Best for
Sensitive & patient‑facing data
Public · Federated

de.NBI Cloud Berlin

A flexible, self‑managed, publicly reachable cloud, part of the national de.NBI Cloud / ELIXIR Germany infrastructure. Open to anyone.

Best for
Cross‑institution work, public services, open science
Batch · Slurm

Eils HPC

A Slurm cluster for research computing in the CBF data center. SSH into the login nodes with your Charité AD account, from the Charité network or VPN.

Best for
Batch computing & traditional HPC workloads

LLM Services

Two LLM APIs, one inside each cloud.

CCI and de.NBI Cloud Berlin each run their own independent LLM API, so you can use large language models without your data ever leaving the infrastructure it belongs to.

Instance A · inside CCI

LLM API on CCI

For sensitive or patient‑facing data. Runs independently within CCI, isolated from public infrastructure.

no shared data
Instance B · de.NBI Cloud Berlin

LLM API on de.NBI

For open or cross‑institution work. denbi-llm-api.bihealth.org

Works with the tools you already use

Both instances speak the OpenAI‑compatible API. Point your existing client at our endpoint and authenticate with an API key issued per user or project. We send you both when you get access.

  • OpenAI‑compatible
  • API key per user or project
  • zero data retention
  • current open‑weight models

Getting started

Getting access in three steps.

i.

Tell us about your project

Email us about your project and use case: what you want to do, and what you need from us.

ii.

We help you choose

  • Sensitive / patient data CCI
  • Charité systems CCI
  • Open / pseudonymised de.NBI
  • Open data, batch jobs Eils HPC
iii.

Onboarding

We set up access (usually within a few days), walk you through your environment and connect you with domain experts where it helps. Training and workshops on request.
